SEVENBRICK’S THE HOBBIT POSTER GIVEAWAY
Hey, Tolkien fans!
I have some of the most amazing friends in the world and they were able to get me some posters from the US Hobbit premiere. However, turns out that two different pals got me two packs of the same posters! While I am more than okay with posting doubles all over my wall I figured why not give these lovely doubles to you all.
So what are these posters, exactly?
Well allow me to explain! There are four of these beauties, each poster is about 15x20 made of extremely high quality durable cardstock featuring a single character on each (as you can see above). They each also come with a plastic sleeve for extra protection.
These posters, in my opinion are absolutely gorgeous. I personally cannot wait to put them up on my wall.
HOW TO GET THESE:
-Reblog this post! (Refrain from spamming your dash, though)
-Have your ask box open, an email, or a skype address available on your blog so that I can contact you upon being selected.
I’ll give a winner December 31, 2012 who will be randomly chosen. The first winner will have the option of choosing two of the four posters they would like and the second winner will get the two who are left. If the first winner doesn’t respond in 72 hours the second winner will become the first and get to choose which ones they would like and a new second will be picked.
I’ll ship anywhere, from the North Hemisphere to the South all the way to Middle-earth.
Good luck!

“Can I touch your butt” in Elvish.
This is so useful
No, this is not “Can I touch your butt” in Elvish. This is “Can I touch your butt?” in English, transcribed using the letters of the Elvish alphabet. There is a difference.
In Elvish, the letters of the alphabet correspond to sounds, not to words. The above text spells it out using one symbol to represent one letter of the original English, which is incorrect:
- c-a-n i t-o-u-c-h y-o-u-r b-u-t-t
If you really want to spell out an English phrase using the Elvish alphabet, you would do so phonetically, which would basically equate to one symbol per phoneme (sound):
- c-a-n a-i t-u-ch y-o-r b-u-t
If you actually wanted to write “Can I touch your butt?” in Elvish, one (very rough) translation would be:
Annog nin daf pladan tele ci?
Which, in Sindarin Elvish, roughly translates to, “Would you give me permission to touch your rear?”
Written in tengwar (the Elvish alphabet), it would look like this:
Sorry for the blurry quality.
I love the internet

Underwater Photos That Mimic the Look of Baroque Paintings
Hawaii-based photographer Christy Lee Rogers specializes in creating dreamlike photos of people underwater. Her project Reckless Unbound shows people swirling around one another while wearing colorful outfits. The photos are reminiscent of the paintings of old Baroque masters, who would often paint people floating around in heavenly realms.
Rogers creates her photos in swimming pools at night. The scenes are illuminated with bright off-camera lights, and the shoots often last two to four hours each.
Christy Lee Rogers reshapes the boundaries between contemporary photography and painting, with her series Reckless Unbound. While provoking the audience with vivacious movements and purpose, she also stirs the viewer’s memories of baroque painter Pieter Paul Rubens and his Massacre of the Innocents.
Without the use of post-production manipulation, Rogers’ works are made in-camera, on the spot, in water and at night. She applies her technique to bodies submerged in water during tropical nights in Hawaii. Through a fragile process of experimentation, she builds elaborate scenes of coalesced colours and entangled bodies that exalt the human character as one of vigour and warmth, while also capturing the beauty and vulnerability of the tragic experience that is the human condition.
You can see more of her work over on her website.
So that’s how they did it!
Srsly: remember that nobody really flew in the 17c—we’re used to seeing all those flying draperies, but the artists had to make it up from available evidence. So powerful was their vision & skill that they created a template that we think of as real.
And I don’t even like Baroque art!

Well said. Well said indeed. I must say I’ve been in the camp of feeling disappointed in DW lately, but you’ve made some very good points, and I think I will approach the next episode with a much more open mind.I expressed on twitter last night my frustration at the knee jerk reaction of many members of this fandom to immediately look for and post things they hate in an episode. What I loved about this fandom to begin with, what ultimately got me interested in watching the show, was how much they loved their characters, and how willing they were to suspend their disbelief because they wanted to assume the best. Yes, sometimes we all have to call out things we love on their outrageous errors, but I feel as though that impulse has grown stronger since about halfway through season 6. It seems as though all of the good things happening in the show are being drowned out. I’d like to argue that there are some good things happening in this show still. This fandom has largely felt very toxic and hypercritical to me, and I’d like to be able to be a part of it without feeling like my positivity is seen as a negative.
So without further ado, let’s get going. Under the cut will be, obviously, spoilers for both Asylum of the Daleks and Dinosaurs on a Spaceship
